Students at 60 colleges across the country made more than 1,000 telephone calls to members of Congress Wednesday to protest proposed cuts in the federal government's student loan programs. The cuts, which consist mostly of reductions in lender subsidies, are being considered by Congress as part of its effort to reduce the federal budget deficit.
